What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a process that promotes personal growth and healing through conversational and behavioral interventions. What psychotherapy looks like will vary widely depending upon the therapist, the patient, and the circumstances that brought someone into therapy.

What is most important in promoting healing is that you feel you can connect with and openly share with your therapist. So if you come to see me and I’m not a good fit for you, please tell me - I won’t take it personally (no therapist is a good fit with everyone) and I want to help you find what will work best for you even if that is not with me!

I offer in-person and/or online therapy (via secure video calling) to meet a variety of needs and decrease barriers to care. Contact me to learn more!

What to expect

Initial Phone Call: During the initial phone call I will be checking to see that there seems to be an initial fit. I will ask about your insurance to ensure I can see you. I will ask you to briefly describe the reason you are seeking therapy (i.e. breakup, too much worry, never happy) to make sure my experience fits your need. And lastly I will be asking about scheduling to make sure I can accommodate it.

First Visit: The first visit will be unlike any other session. We will go over paperwork to ensure you understand confidentiality and business practices. We will discuss the reason for your visit and I will be asking you extensive background questions to enable me to best understand a bit about you and how you see your concerns. Together, we will set goals for what you would like to achieve in therapy. Most initial sessions last 55 minutes.

Subsequent Visits: Subsequent visits will focus on areas of concerns. Most sessions will be 55 min. The frequency of visits is dependent upon the severity of the concern and both of our scheduling availabilities. Typically, it is beneficial to commit to weekly therapy sessions for at least a month, and then to cut back on frequency as improvements are made.
